Our Commitment to Safety

Welcome to the myCrowd community! Our mission is to help people discover and organize events in a safe, respectful, and positive environment. This document outlines the rules and principles that keep our community safe and explains how we address harmful content and behavior. Your use of myCrowd constitutes your agreement to these guidelines and our Terms of Service.

The safety of our users is our highest priority. We are dedicated to creating a space where everyone feels secure and respected. This commitment is especially strong for the younger members of our community. We have developed robust safety tools and a zero-tolerance policy for certain behaviors to ensure myCrowd remains a trusted platform for all.

1. Age Requirement

myCrowd is for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly allow individuals under the age of 13 to create an account. When you create an account, you represent that you are 13 years of age or older. We have implemented special protections and policies to ensure a safer experience for users between the ages of 13 and 17.

2. Zero-Tolerance Policy on Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE)

myCrowd has an absolute zero-tolerance policy for any activity that facilitates, promotes, or depicts child sexual abuse and exploitation.

  • Prohibited Content: Users are strictly prohibited from creating, uploading, sharing, or engaging with any content that constitutes Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) or any other form of CSAE.
  • Immediate Action: Any user found to be in violation of this policy will be immediately and permanently banned from the myCrowd service.
  • Reporting to Authorities: We are legally and ethically obligated to report all apparent instances of CSAE, along with any associated user information, to the appropriate law enforcement authorities, including the Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s Cybertip.ca.

3. Prohibited Content and Behavior

To ensure our community remains safe and welcoming, the following behaviors and types of content are strictly prohibited:

a. Harassment, Bullying, and Threats

You may not engage in, promote, or encourage targeted harassment, bullying, or threats of violence against any individual or group. This includes:

  • Unwanted sexual advances or content.
  • Content intended to degrade or shame an individual.
  • Threats of physical harm or violence.

b. Hate Speech and Discrimination

We do not permit content that attacks, demeans, or promotes discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

c. Impersonation and Misrepresentation

You may not impersonate other individuals, brands, or organizations in a manner that is intended to or does mislead, confuse, or deceive others.

d. Illegal Activities and Regulated Goods

Do not use myCrowd to promote, organize, or engage in any illegal activities, including the sale or facilitation of regulated goods such as illicit drugs, firearms, or alcohol to minors.

e. Spam and Malicious Content

You may not post spam, phishing links, or content that contains malware, viruses, or other harmful code.

4. Your Safety Tools

We empower you to control your experience on myCrowd. Please use the following tools to protect yourself and our community.

  • Report: If you see a user or a piece of content that violates these guidelines, please use the in-app “Report” feature. Our dedicated safety team reviews these reports and will take appropriate action.
  • Block: If you do not wish to interact with another user for any reason, you can “Block” them. This will prevent them from seeing your profile, contacting you, or interacting with your content.

5. How We Enforce Our Policies

Our safety team reviews user reports and proactively monitors for violations of these guidelines. When we identify a violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Content Removal: We will remove any content that violates our policies.
  • Warning: For minor infractions, we may issue a warning.
  • Account Suspension or Ban: For serious or repeated violations, we will temporarily suspend or permanently ban the user’s account. As stated above, any violation of our CSAE policy will result in an immediate and permanent ban.

6. Safety Tips for Our Community

  • Protect Your Information: Be cautious about sharing personal information like your full home address, phone number, or financial details.
  • Think Before You Post: Remember that content you post can be seen by others. Avoid sharing anything you wouldn’t want the public to see.
  • Be Wary of Strangers: Use caution when interacting with people you don’t know in real life.

Tips for Parents and Guardians

We encourage parents and guardians to have open conversations with their teens about online safety. Discuss these guidelines with them and encourage them to use the “Report” and “Block” features whenever they feel uncomfortable. Resources like MediaSmarts offer excellent guidance for families.
